About Us
Our Mission
The Stockbridge Bowl Association (SBA) was formed on August 30, 1946, with a clear purpose: to protect the natural beauty of Stockbridge Bowl and to establish standards that support the broader cause of conservation.
Today, that mission remains unchanged. SBA works to restore, protect, and preserve the ecological, recreational, economic, and aesthetic value of the Bowl, along with its surrounding properties - Bullard Woods and Kwuniikwat Island.
As an all-volunteer nonprofit organization, we rely on the support and involvement of the community to continue this work.
On August 30, 1946, The Stockbridge Bowl Association was formed with the following objective:
“…to protect the natural beauty of the Stockbridge Bowl… and to set the standards that may aid the general cause of conservation.”

We work closely with the Town of Stockbridge to protect and maintain the health of the Bowl and its watershed.
Participate in the Town’s Stockbridge Bowl Stewardship Committee
Support and help fund the lake dredging project
Partner in the monitoring and removal of invasive species, including water chestnuts
Contribute to zebra mussel prevention efforts and operation of the boat wash station
Help fund and expand use of weed harvesting equipment
Collaborate on improvements to the Town Beach

SBA owns and manages Bullard Woods and Kwuniikwat Island, both open to the public.
Maintain and improve trails, signage, benches, docks, and picnic areas
Protect old growth trees and expand pollinator meadow plantings
Remove invasive species, including hardy kiwi (supported by state grant funding)
Work with local commissions to address threats like the hemlock woolly adelgid
Conduct tree health surveys and develop treatment plans
Host educational walks to share the history, ecology, and wildlife of the properties

The SBA board is comprised of both individual directors elected on their own behalf and organizations that appoint representatives to attend board meetings and vote on behalf of their respective organization. Directors serve a three-year term unless filling a vacancy. All directors or their representatives are expected to participate by attending board meetings and serving on (or chairing) a committee or task force. Directors and officers are elected at the SBA Annual Meeting held each July or August.
